Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about our publishing services, process, pricing, and what to expect when working with Miller Freeman.

Getting Started

Before You Begin

We support fiction and non-fiction books, memoirs, business guides, children's titles, and brand content projects. Whether you need a single service like cover design or a full publishing package, our team can tailor a plan to your goals.

Not necessarily. Many clients come to us with a rough draft, detailed outline, or even just an idea. During your free consultation, we'll assess where you are and recommend the right path — from ghostwriting and editing to design and distribution.

Fill out the quote form on any page, use the Get In Touch button in the navigation, or contact us directly. Share your project type, manuscript status, and timeline — we'll respond with a personalized recommendation and pricing breakdown.

Publishing Process

How We Work

Timelines vary by scope. A basic formatting and digital setup project may take 2–4 weeks, while a full-service package with editing, design, and distribution typically runs 8–16 weeks. Your project manager will provide a schedule at kickoff.

Yes. Every project is assigned a project manager who coordinates editors, designers, and specialists on your team. They handle scheduling, file handoffs, and status updates so you always know what's happening next.

Absolutely. We offer individual services as well as bundled packages. During your consultation, we'll recommend what your project needs — you decide what to include.

Most services include at least two rounds of revisions at key milestones — for example, after the editorial pass or cover concept presentation. Your quote will specify revision allowances for each deliverable.

Rights & Ownership

Your Book, Your Rights

Yes. You retain full ownership of your work. Miller Freeman provides publishing services and support — your intellectual property remains yours throughout and after the project.

Always, unless you've engaged us specifically for ghostwriting under a confidential arrangement. For standard editing, design, and publishing services, you are credited as the author on the cover and in retailer listings.

Once your project is complete and final payment is received, you own the deliverable files — cover artwork, interior layout, and print-ready PDFs. We provide source files formatted for the platforms you plan to use.

Pricing & Payment

Costs & Packages

Pricing depends on manuscript length, service scope, timeline, and add-ons such as illustration or marketing. We provide itemized quotes after reviewing your project details — no hidden fees.

Yes. Most full-service packages can be split into milestone-based payments tied to project stages — kickoff, editorial completion, design approval, and final delivery. Ask your project manager for available options.

If you cancel before work begins, your deposit is fully refundable. Once production starts, refunds are prorated based on completed milestones. Your contract outlines the terms for your specific project.

Design & Production

Editing, Design & Files

We deliver print-ready PDFs, reflowable ePub files, and platform-specific uploads for Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, and other retailers you choose. Cover files are provided in high-resolution formats suitable for print and digital use.

Yes. We can assign an ISBN through our publishing program or use one you provide. We also guide you through copyright registration with the U.S. Copyright Office as part of our publishing consultation services.

Yes. We prepare files for paperback, hardcover, and digital formats. Distribution setup covers major retailers including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple Books, and Ingram's global network.

Marketing & Distribution

Getting Your Book to Readers

We offer press releases, author website support, social media assets, launch strategy, and PR outreach. Marketing can be added to any package or purchased as a standalone service.

Depending on your distribution plan, your title can appear on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple Books, Kobo, and through IngramSpark to thousands of bookstores and libraries worldwide.
